Jan Elpel is a quick draw artist and a plein air painter. Jan is a retired Clinical Psychologist who began seriously studying art with major portrait and landscape artists in the nation about twelve years ago. She has studied life drawing and portraits intensively and is now excited about the art of the horse and mule. Many paintings in this exhibit were painted on location and others from her photographs of wilderness experiences. Preserving the “life” in life drawings and portraits in Jan’s objective, and this often means stopping work on the piece at what might be called an unfinished stage. This approach is fortified by the viewing public that often resonates with the work; that somehow it reveals the “soul” to the individual.
Elpel offers drawing and painting workshops and is available for commissions.
