Unique “One Day on the Madison” Art Event Featured at Fly Fishing Festival’s Gala Banquet
The Hole in the Wall Gallery of Ennis recruits Montana artists to paint different scenes on the Madison River on the same day.
On Thursday, May 29th, Montana artists braved the dramatic weather and took their paintbrushes, easels, and palettes out to different locations to capture on canvas familiar scenes of the Madison River. The artists spread out at different locations from MacAtee Bridge down to Moonlight on the Madison along the river. Cori Koenig joked that, “We thought about changing the name to ‘Four Seasons In One Day on the Madison’ but thought it was a bit of a mouthful!” The resulting paintings will be sold at silent auction at the Ennis on the Madison Fly Fishing Festival’s Gala Banquet on Friday, June 27th.
This unique effort, the second annual “One Day on the Madison,” is being organized by the Madison River Foundation and the Hole in the Wall Gallery in Ennis. The proceeds from the auction will be shared with the artists and the Madison River Foundation.
The Hole In The Wall Gallery artists participating in “One Day on the Madison” are Jerolyn Dirks, Patsy Eckert, Sharon Edwards, Ethel Fogelsong, Asha Murthy MacDonald, and Albin Veselka. Plein air artist Aaron Shuerr will also be donating a piece.
“I am really excited about this project,” the Hole in the Wall’s Cori Koenig said. “This is a chance to showcase the work of local artists and also benefit the work of the Madison River Foundation.” Local artist Patsy Eckert comments, “It was a challenging day on the river, we saw every type of weather and lighting. I think we all learned something today!”
“This is an exciting feature for the Festival’s Gala Banquet,” Lessner noted. “Banquet guests will have the opportunity to bid on and take home an original artwork featuring a scene on the beautiful Madison River. We’re sure this will make the evening all the more festive.” Cori Koenig agreed that the silent auction will add another touch of elegance to the evening.
In addition to the “One Day on the Madison” silent auction, the banquet also will feature a live auction for an original painting by nationally renowned Montana western and wildlife artist Larry Zabel. The proceeds of the live auction will benefit the work of the Foundation. The banquet will be held on the banks of the Madison River at Buffalo Jump Pasture on the Sun Ranch in Cameron. The keynote speaker is Jeff Hagener, director of Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks.
Seating is limited and reservations are required by calling the Foundation at 406-682-3148.
